Texas State faculty, staff honored during Fall 2014 Convocation

Texas State University President Denise Trauth presented several faculty and staff awards during the Fall 2014 Convocation.
This year’s recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Teaching are Shirley Ogletree, professor in the Department of Psychology, and Paige Haber-Curran, assistant professor in the Department of Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education and School Psychology.
The two individuals who received this year’s Presidential Awards for Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Activities are Melinda Villagran, professor in the Department of Communication Studies, and Ting Liu, assistant professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance.
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Service went to Roselyn Morris, professor in the Department of Accounting, and Janet Hale, senior lecturer in the Department of Finance and Accounting.
This year’s recipient of the 2013-14 Presidential Seminar Award was Jesus F. de la Teja, Regents' Professor in the Department of History and director of the Center for the Study of the Southwest.
The Alumni Association recognized Steven Furney, University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance, as the recipient of the Teaching Award of Honor.
The faculty senate recognized Dennis Dunn, professor in the Department of History and director of the International Studies Program, Vedaraman Sriramen, University Distinguished professor of Engineering Technology, and Steve Wilson, professor of English, as the recipients of the Everette Swinney Faculty Senate Teaching Award.
Michael Forstner, professor of biology, was named 2013 Regents Professor by the Texas State University System Board of Regents, only the 20th in the system so honored.
This year’s new University Distinguished Professors include Ian Davidson, professor of music; and Joycelyn Pollock professor of criminal justice.
The four retired faculty members who were named Distinguished Professors Emeriti were: Jo Webber, Distinguished Professor Emerita of Curriculum and Instruction; Glenn Joy, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Philosophy; David Pino, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Music; Robert Olney, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Management, who died earlier this year.
This year’s recipients of the Excellence in Diversity Award were Stella Silva, associate director in the Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion; and Octavio Pimentel, associate professor of English.
The award for 2014 Employee of the Year went to Joe Meyer, director of institutional research.
Winners of this year’s Mariel Muir Mentoring Awards were Iliana Melendez-Burciaga, student development specialist for the dean of students; and Diann McCabe, senior lecturer in the Honors College.
