The Balance & Gait Program in the Physical Therapy Clinic at Texas State University-San Marcos is seeking patients to participate in its rehabilitation program for people suffering balance or gait disorders due to a cerebral vascular accident or head injury.

The 12-week exercise regimen supports the clinical education of doctoral students in the physical therapy program and includes:

• Exercise using Total Body Reciprocal Training (TBRT) on the NuStep recumbent bike or bodyweight-supported treadmill
• Exercise up to moderate intensity levels to improve strength and aerobic conditioning
• Exercise for total body flexibility including physically impaired limbs
• Patients are encouraged to NOT use any assistive devices or orthotic wear during balance and gait activities to optimize self-regulation of physical function

There is sufficient funding to provide patient scholarships for 10 more participants starting in January. Participants need to be 18 years or older and with an impairment for a minimum of 6 months. Treatments will be twice a week for 12 weeks (Jan. 23–April 27) during the semester. Patients will be registered on a first-come, first serve basis.
