International high school counselors coming to Texas State

Date of Release: 07/14/2006

SAN MARCOS — International relations take center stage at Texas State University-San Marcos July 19 when the university plays host to 27 high school counselors from Africa, Europe, India and South America.

During their visit, the counselors will have lunch with Texas State professors, students and staff at the Texas Rivers Center with Associate Vice President Michael Heintze providing the official welcome. Other planned activities include a glass bottom boat tour, meetings with undergraduate admissions representatives and the opportunity to tour dormitories and other on-campus facilities.

The counselors advise and educate both international and U.S. students about choosing a college in the U.S and elsewhere. The primary goal of their trip is to learn more about Texas and Louisiana and colleges and universities, so the counselors can better counsel their students who are considering pursuit of higher education in the U.S.

The trip has been organized through the International Office at Texas State and the Council of International Schools (CIS). CIS is a not-for-profit association of schools and post-secondary institutions working collaboratively for the continuous improvement of international education. The association provides a number of services and linkages that facilitate the recruitment of undergraduate international students.
