SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Julie Eckert, Peer Education Coordinator with SWT’s Alcohol and Drug Resource Center, has been chosen to serve as a center associate for the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention.
Eckert will attend a training for center associates Aug. 15 - Aug. 19 and will then begin to work as a center associate.
Every two years the center selects a group of approximately 30 center associates who act in concert with the center to provide technical assistance to colleges and universities and key stake holders, including those involved in statewide initiatives. Center associates serve two-year terms.
The U.S. Department of Education first established the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention in 1993 to assist campuses and their surrounding communities in comprehensive approaches to alcohol, other drug and violence prevention. The center is one of the primary resources for assisting institutions of higher education in developing and carrying out alcohol and other drug prevention programs on their campuses.
