SWT hosts National Multicultural Job Expo
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — For more than 10 years, Southwest Texas State University has taken a proactive approach to diversifying the workforce through the National Multicultural Job Expo. The 2001 Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 5 and 6 in Strahan Coliseum off Aquarena Springs Drive on the SWT campus.
The Expo is expected to draw more than 3,000 students and 250 companies. Whether a college student searching for a summer internship, a graduating senior in pursuit of that entry-level position or a professional looking to change career fields, the Job Expo features a wide array of occupations and employers. Opportunities in almost every field of study from graphic arts and education to technology and chemistry will be offered.
According to the Office of Career Services at SWT, which hosts this two-day job fair, the Multicultural Job Expo is working toward culturally diversifying the workforce; however, it is open to all students and college graduates. Business, industry and government employers will be featured April 5, while business, government and education employers will be featured on April 6.
“The National Multicultural Job Expo is the biggest draw of qualified candidates we see in one place at any time,” said Paul D. Quarve, district manager for Wells Fargo Financial. “We have hired an average of seven students at the event with several others hired at later dates.”
A communications senior from Eastern New Mexico University wrote, “Excellent Expo. Received another offer and more than five great leads. Far exceeded my expectations. I can and will recommend this job fair to anyone ready to enter the job market.”
