SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Christie Kangas has been chosen as the new admission director for Southwest Texas State University.
Kangas comes to SWT from the University of Southern Colorado, where she served as director of admissions for three years. Some of her projects included introducing new recruitment publications and activities and assisting Student Financial Services with simplification of scholarship application and selection processes.
“She has had several very successful years as director at the University of Southern Colorado, and she is a seasoned admissions professional,” said James Studer, vice president for student affairs. “She has the right vision on how to operate an admissions office in the 21st century with respect to technology without excluding the personal approach.”
Prior to her work with USC, Kangas served as assistant director of admissions/transfer and international relations at the University of Northern Iowa. She has served as an admissions counselor and teacher.
Kangas received her bachelor of arts in mathematics and secondary education from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. She received her master of arts in education from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. She is a member of the National Association of College Admissions Counselors and American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
