SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Spring and summer college graduates who haven’t yet secured a position in corporate America should make plans to take advantage of one of the largest multicultural recruitment fairs in the country at Southwest Texas State University April 8-9.
The 10th annual National Multicultural Job Expo coincides with the SWT Centennial Celebration, which is being observed throughout the 1998-99 academic year.
More than 200 businesses, governmental agencies and schools districts from across the nation will send representatives to meet with prospective employees during the two-day event scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day in Strahan Coliseum on the SWT campus. Reservations and information about special lodging and transportation discounts can be found on SWT’s Career Services website at http://www.careerservices.txstate.edu/ or by calling (512) 245-2645.
Business, government and industry will be featured both days and school district representatives will be participating on Friday only.
The list of participating companies reads like a “Who’s Who” of major U.S. corporations including J.C. Penny Co., Xerox Corp., State Farm Insurance, FIC Insurance Group, Occidental Chemical Corp., Kraft Foods, Advanced Micro Devices, Mayo Foundation and U.S. Departrment of Labor. In addition to major corporations, the job expo will feature 60 school districts from coast to coast.
Current students, recent graduates or individuals thinking about changing jobs or careers have the opportunity to get information from or interview with a variety of companies, governmental agencies and school districts. Although the multicultural job expo targets workforce diversity initiatives, it is inclusive and open to all students and graduates.
SWT coordinates and hosts the job expo, with assistance from the J.C. Penney Co., the Xerox Corp. and the San Antonio Colleges and Universities Placement Association.
