Tenth annual National Multicultural Job Expo April
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — The 10th anniversary of one of the largest multicultural recruitment fairs in the country, National Multicultural Job Expo, will be celebrated at Southwest Texas State University April 8-9. The 10th Expo anniversary coincides with the SWT Centennial Celebration, which is being observed throughout the 1998-99 academic year.
The 10th annual Expo will give employers the opportunity to interview graduates from across the country, as well as identify candidates for co-op and internship programs and summer jobs.
Current students, recent graduates or individuals thinking about changing jobs or careers have the opportunity to get information from or interview with more than 200 companies, governmental agencies and school districts. Although the multicultural expo targets workforce diversity initiatives, it is inclusive and open to all students and graduates.
“Most students do not come to school just for enlightenment,” said Derrick Scott, recruiter for Advanced Micro Devices. “They come to get jobs. Students should begin preparation for the workforce from day one. SWT has provided wonderful vehicles such as the Expo. Students should take advantage of it.”
“Our company’s vision is to create a compelling place to shop, work and invest,” commented Richard Leo, San Antonio district human resource manager for Sears. “Southwest Texas and Job Expo have provided us with future leaders who will continue to make this vision a reality.”
The Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day in Strahan Coliseum. Business, government and industry will be featured on Thursday, April 8, and business, industry, government and education will be featured on Friday, April 9.
“I took a Greyhound bus from Salt Lake City for 36 hours. I feel that this job fair was an excellent success for me,” said one student from Brigham Young University who participated in last year’s Expo.
SWT coordinates and hosts the job expo, with assistance from the J.C. Penney Co., the Xerox Corporation and the San Antonio Colleges and Universities Placement Association.
