Former Hoover's CTO Takes Technology Helm at HighBeam Research

CHICAGO—HighBeam(TM) Research, Inc. - operator of an online research engine for individuals (www.highbeam.com) that fills the gap between free search engines and high-end information services - announced today that it has appointed Thomas M. Ballard as vice president of engineering and chief technology officer.
Ballard comes to HighBeam Research with extensive executive-level experience in leading companies through rapid growth periods. He was most recently vice president of technology and CTO at Hoover's, Inc., a Dun & Bradstreet company that provides information about industries, companies and key decision makers. Leading the technology efforts at Hoover's since 1998, Ballard managed the development of systems and applications that took Hoover's through a period of unprecedented growth. Prior to Hoover's, Ballard served as vice president of Medianet/TradeOne, a subsidiary of Affiliated Computer Services.
At HighBeam Research, Ballard, who will be based at the company's Chicago headquarters, will manage the company's team of engineers and will lead efforts to evaluate and develop new search and publishing technologies.

In 2003, Ballard was named the "Austin Information Technologist of the Year" by the Austin chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals. Ballard holds a bachelor's degree in computer information systems, with an emphasis on business management, from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University).
