GigaStudent

SRT graduate Stephen Orsak is currently working for the Tascam development studio in Austin (used to be Nemesys, developer of GigaStudio). He's doing sound design work on a modeled solo violin library for GigaStudio utilizing FIR and real-time convolution processing. For more info visit GigaStudio.

Speaking of News

SRT graduate Roger Berrones spoke in Austin and will also be speaking at the Game Developers Convention in San Fransisco about his experiences at Midway. Roger was responsible for over fifty minutes of cinematics animation on the game "Psi Ops, The Mindgate Conspiracy", was lead animator on the opening cinematics to Mortal Kombat Deception & was lead animator on the opening cinematics for Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.

"I Love Your Smell"

Students helped record Marilyn Rucker's tune, I Love Your Smell, was featured on CBS's The King of Queens. The episode entitled “Cologne Ranger” originally aired on January 12th. The song was played over a montage of scenes of everyone smelling Doug and telling him how nice his new cologne smelled.

Mastering the Art of Recording

Our aging Sonic Solutions CD mastering system (what a work horse) was replaced with a new SADiE pcm8 system. Also included was a complete CEDAR audio restoration suite. We can now support 96K (or higher) sample rates, 24-bit files, and the creation of enhanced CDs.

Graduate Making History

The History Channel will air a special on the War of 1812 Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. Graduate Clayton Scott did all the sound effects for this 90-minute program. Working for Keith Harter Music in San Antonio, Clayton has also worked with Tommy Lee Jones and George Strait.

Yamaha 02r96 v2 Installed

The aging console in the C-Room was recently replaced with a digital mixer from Yamaha. The new 02r96 v2 has 24-channels of digital I/O connected to a Pro Tools HD|3 system and 6-channels of analog I/O connected to a surround monitoring system. The 02r has full 5.1 capability including bass management and joystick panning. The 02r is also a capable control surface.

Projection System Installed

The C-Room is our first lab to get a projection system. The XGA DDP image looks quite sharp on the Draper screen when either mirroring the main computer monitor or displaying video.

Sample Student

Student Danny Reisch is now head sound designer at Syntour Productions in New Braunsfels. Danny's sample libraries are being used by the Sci-Fi Channel, the Discovery Channel, and Dreamworks Pictures. Danny's sounds are also in use at several recording studios including Tree Sound in Atlanta where Elton John recently used them in a project.

One of the program's first graduates, Steve Chadie, is making a name for himself as an engineer.

Graduate Opens Cristobal Studios:

Graduate Chris Kipp built his own recording studio from the ground up with help from Acoustic Spaces and Mark Genfan. The final product has a lot of hill country charm and looks & sounds great.

Graduate Michael Glass was hired by Rupert Neve Designs as a technical assistant. He's responsible for anything from prototyping new designs, troubleshooting current circuits, front panel layouts, product analysis and feature considerations, to schematic capture, production/assembly integration, graphics preparation for production, etc...

Communication Arts magazine in their Interactive Design Annual 7 has chosen Barbie® Pet Rescue to be one of the most successful entertainment CD-ROMs of the year. Graduate Noel Gabriel composed and recorded the music for this title.

Bob Mould Donates Console:

Austin rocker Bob Mould donated his DDA QMR 48-channel split desk before his move to NY. This unique desk is now the centerpiece of the B-Room. Many thanks to the front man from Sugar and Husker Du.
