Texas
State University-San Marcos
Mariachi Infantil Youth Program
About The Program
The Texas State
Youth Mariachi program began in the fall of 2006. The idea came
out of a
need for quality Mariachi education for the San Marcos
youth. Students study instrumental and vocal techniques and learn
Mariachi Music from some of the best teachers
in the
area. Students in
grades K - 5 can
choose to play either violin or guitar. Students of grades 6 - 8
can choose violin, trumpet, vihuela, guitar, or guitarron.
All students must provide their own
instrument and instrumental supplies.
Students are grouped by age
and ability into classes with a low student to teacher ratio.
Each child will
have the chance to get special attention
and
any additional help they may need.
Since
its creation, Mariachi
Infantil has grown tremendously and is the newest addition to the
Multicultural
family at Texas
State.
Rehearsals
The
group rehearses once a week during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Classes
are held on Tuesday evenings starting at 5:30pm at the Texas State School of Music
(corner of N. LBJ and Sessom)
Concerts
We also have a final concert each
semester to present all the skills and
music that the students learned during the semester.
Program
Cost
The
cost is kept to a minimum to allow as many students as possible the
opportunity
to participate. There is a $25.00 registration fee along with a
$100.00
tuition fee for each long semester. There is a seperate rate for
the Summer session which will be announced at a later date.
Come
join the Mariachi Infantil Youth Program.
It's
an excellent
opportunity for students to learn invaluable musical concepts and make
life-long friends.
