Mariachi Nueva Generacion became a class at Texas State University in the fall of 1997.  The class is dedicated to the study and performance of the true Mexican art form known as Mariachi.  We study and perform Music in many styles such as Son, Huapango, Bolero, Polka, and many others.

Since its creation, Texas State Mariachi Nueva Generacion has established itself as one of the leading university mariachis in the State of Texas.

As performers, Texas State Mariachi Neva Generacion is a very active and sought after ensemble.  The group has performed internationally with the Texas State Symphony Orchestra and in Scotland and England in May of 2000 in a tour with the Scottish Folk group “The Wherries.”

The mariachi also joins the salsa and jazz ensembles for a yearly recruiting trip to the South Texas area.  These trips have included performances at various high schools in Eagle Pass, the Rio Grande Valley, and Laredo, Texas.  The group performs regularly for private parties, on and off campus, in the San Marcos, Austin, and San Antonio areas.
