Mariachi Nueva
Generacion became a class at Texas State University in
the fall of 1997. The class is dedicated to the study and
performance of the true Mexican art form known as Mariachi. We
study and perform Music in many styles such as Son, Huapango, Bolero,
Polka, and many others.
Since
its creation, Texas State Mariachi Nueva Generacion has established
itself as one of the leading university mariachis in the State of
Texas.
As performers, Texas
State Mariachi Neva Generacion is a very active
and sought after
ensemble. The group has performed
internationally with the Texas State Symphony Orchestra and in Scotland
and England in May of 2000 in a tour with the Scottish Folk group “The
Wherries.”
The mariachi
also joins the salsa and jazz ensembles for a yearly recruiting trip to
the
South Texas area. These trips have included performances at
various
high schools in Eagle Pass, the Rio Grande Valley, and Laredo,
Texas.
The group performs regularly for private parties, on and off campus, in
the
San Marcos, Austin, and San Antonio areas.

Besides its busy
performance schedule, the group is committed to
hosting the annual “Feria del Mariachi” competition and workshop held
