Rules and Regulations


The competition is for
Middle School, High School, and University Mariachis.
Group Size    8+ students

Instrumentation
Ensembles must contain the following instruments:
trumpets, violins/flutes, guitarron, vihuela, and guitar.

Participants
All students must be enrolled with the participating school or organization.  Those students not enrolled are ineligible to participate.  If an ineligible participant is found, the group will be disqualified.  Participants must also have good academic standing with a grade average of C or higher.

Directors
The director for the performing group is not considered to be part of the group in regards to the performance.  During contest time directors must leave the main stage area before the performance.  NO INSTRUCTION will be carried out during the performance.  Any instruction given during the competition time will result in point deduction.

Time Limit
There will be a ten (10) minute maximum with a five (5) minute minimum performing time for the group competition.  Any group exceeding maximum length is subject to point deduction.

Performance Time

Performance times for the competition will be announced at the directors meeting on Saturday, April 28th, 2007.  Exact time for the directors meeting will be announced at the registration table on Saturday morning.  Directors must be present at this meeting.  

Warm up Rooms

There will be three warm up room available during the competition.  
Groups must be present at least thirty minutes prior to their performance for warm-up.

Music
There are no regulations as to what music is performed.   However, music must be memorized and performed within the time limit.  Music stands on stage will not be permitted.

Microphones

There will be a total of 16 microphones on stage for competition.  There are 11 instrumental microphones and 5 vocal microphones.  Directors must adjust their microphone usage according to the diagram:

Judging
There will be a total 4 judges.  The judges will be judging the groups according to the critiria found on the judge sheets.  There will be a judge for Vocal, Trumpet, Armonia, and Violin.  All judges will be provided with a judge sheet for written comments as well as a tape and tape recorder for taped comments.  All materials will be given to the groups after the competition.
