Women and Gender Research Collaborative Symposium
The Center for Multicultural and Gender Studies’ Women and Gender Research Collaborative at Texas State University-San Marcos invite you to hold the date for the upcoming symposium Occupy Free Speech: Getting Women’s Voices Heard. The Collaborative joins with the Common Experience team to illuminate the 2011-2012 Common Experience theme, “Freedoms: The First Amendment.”

The Women and Gender Research Collaborative at Texas State University-San Marcos is soliciting proposals from scholars who would like to participate in its upcoming symposium, Occupy Free Speech: Getting Women’s Voices Heard. This event will provide a forum for diverse perspectives on issues of free speech for women in the U.S. and around the globe. The symposium will take place on Friday, March 30, 2012, 9:00 am-1:30 pm in the LBJ Student Center on the Texas State University campus in San Marcos, Texas.
Scholars from Texas, the United States, and the world are invited to present papers discussing various issues related to free speech,including such topics as Women’s Voices in the Media, Representation of Women in Government and Business, Money as Speech, Corporations as Persons, Pornography: Free Speech or Obscenity?, Slut Walk Activism, Speaking Up Against Domestic Violence, and Identifying Voices in a Democracy.
Although we would like to feature one or more papers from Latin American scholars, the Collaborative welcomes papers on any related topic from the US and other countries. Presenters are invited to submit their papers for a special issue based on the symposium of the peer reviewed online Journal of Research on Women and Gender. The deadline for submission of the paper will be June 30, 2012. Persons interested in participating should submit an abstract of no more than 500 words and one-page curriculum vitae by February 15, 2012. These may be sent as email attachments to mcgs@txstate.edu or mailed to the address below:
