Multicultural Curriculum Transformation and Research Institute
The fourth annual Multicultural Curriculum Transformation and Research Institute will highlight multicultural curriculum transformation theory and practice. It will focus on best practices for broadening and enriching the curriculum by re-envisioning goals, content, teaching strategies, assessment, and classroom interactions with a multicultural lens. Representative faculty from all of the colleges have now attended and have given the experience high marks. Who is Eligible:
Faculty members who wish to transform courses that have not been formally identified as having multicultural content or multicultural perspectives. Exceptions will be occasionally made for faculty teaching courses with a multicultural designation who have not attended the Institute and would like to sharpen their skills in implementing their multicultural course(s). Full-time tenure track or tenured faculty are preferred, but a case can be made for full-time lecturers who have taught at Texas State 3 or more years who are teaching required courses.
Course Selection for Transformation:
For the greatest impact, choose courses that are required for the degree program and those that impact the greatest number of students. All courses without a multicultural content or multicultural perspective designation are good candidates.
Application Process and Deadlines:

• If more than two in the college apply, the dean ranks the applicants and sends all applications.
• Deadline to Center for Multicultural and Gender Studies: March 17, 2008.
Institute Facilitators:
Guest scholar(s) and a variety of Texas State faculty
Stipends:
The stipends will be processed as the activities are completed.
• Attendance: (100% or otherwise prorated) $1,000
• Transformed syllabus and completed assessment instrument: $ 200
• Outcome Measures Report: response from students and 1-2 page analysis
of the implemented transformation: (highly recommended) $ 300
• Research paper on transformation presented at conference in discipline or
diversity conference: (highly recommended) $ 500
Total: $2,000
Attendance Policy:
Completion certificates will be given to participants who attend all five days, turn in the multicultural course assessment instrument and transformed syllabus.

Small group discussions and activities, PowerPoint presentations and full group discussions, and independent research.

• Diverse learning styles and multicultural teaching approaches
• Discipline specific multicultural content enrichment ideas
• Culturally enriched teaching techniques
• Culturally sensitive assessment strategies
• Effective intercultural and cross cultural communication and communication in conflict strategies

• The MCGS Advisory Council will review your documents and send a recommendation for a multicultural
designation.
