Frederick Douglass: Reflections on a Struggle for Freedom

Frederick Douglass: Reflections on a Struggle for Freedom will be produced for the Texas State University community and junior and senior high school public school students in the Hays County area. The one-man show will be the first act of a two-act drama. The three university performances will take place at in the Theatre Department’s Studio Theatre, kicking off Black History Month. The production will then go on tour to local high schools as part of Teaching History in the Public Schools Grant sponsored by the Department of History. The public school performance will be accompanied by a curriculum guide for the teachers with a companion handout for the students.

Frederick Douglass will be performed by Cyrus Cassells, a poet, actor, and associate professor in the Department of English. The production will be directed by Dr. Sandra Mayo, Director of Multicultural and Gender Studies and Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre.
