Criteria:
• A full-time student enrolled at Texas State University–San Marcos taking a minimum of 12 hours per semester.
• Maintain a GPA of at least 2.75.
• Preference for an African American male student exhibiting leadership, commitment to public service and a desire to make a difference in his community.
• Applicant must complete the following application including the two-page essay question below.

The historic empowerment purpose of Black Men United is “to ignite black men to action, to fellowship, to growth and development for the betterment of our communities.”

Mission of the Organization
Since being founded in 1998, Black Men United has become an organization of prestigious magnitude in propelling young minds to reach a level of exceptionality through unification. Black Men United relies on its core values of promoting love, unity, and brotherhood in order to maintain its immaculate image as being a prominent organization on the campus of Texas State University. As an organization it is our mission to strive for greatness while thriving in brotherhood.

Community Service
A few members of the organization this past spring semester helped with the Hurricane Katrina Relief Program. With the help of members from the Campus Crusade group, Black Men United got to lend its helping hand to people who were far away but close to their hearts. The Katrina Relief was the biggest community service project of the past year but members of BMU are also advent participants of Bobcat Build, mentoring programs, and overall volunteers for the city of San Marcos.
