Paul Deemer - Jazz Trombone

Trombonist, Paul Deemer, is an El Paso native working as a freelance musician
in the greater Austin area. Paul attended the University of Arizona for his Bachelors of
Music degree and studied Trombone Performance under professors Tom Ervin and
Moisés Paiewonsky. As a student and freelance trombonist in Tucson, he had the
honor of sharing the stage with Scott Whitfield, Pete Christlieb, Ed Shaugnessy, Andy
Martin, Brice Winston, Rickey Woodard, Randy Sandke, Wycliffe Gordon, Warren
Vache, and Jake Hannah. In 2008 Paul was winner of the ETW National Jazz Solo
Trombone Competition as well as a runner-up at the ITF Carl Fontana International Jazz
Competition held in Salt Lake City, Utah. After receiving his Bachelors degree, in
Performance from the University of Arizona, Paul went on to earn his Masters Degree in
Studio Performance and Jazz at the renowned Frost School of Music in Miami, Florida.
He was a member of the Down Beat award winning Frost Concert Jazz and Salsa
Bands for both years of his masters as well as a member of the Frost Jazz Sextet, the
flagship jazz combo of the school of music, for three semesters. While at the University
of Miami, Paul studied under professors Dante Luciani, Chuck Bergeron, Greg Gisbert,
Jason Carder, and Whit Sidener.

Paul was also a member of the prestigious Mancini
 Institute Orchestra, under the direction of the Dean of the Frost School of Music, Shelly
Berg. As a member of the Mancini Orchestra, Paul had the pleasure of playing in the
backing band for numerous artists including John Pizzarelli, Bruce Hornsby, Patti Austin,
Gary Burton, Sammy figueroa, Arturo Sandoval, John Secada, Steve Miller, Ricky
Scaggs, Will Lee, Dave Grusin, and Nestor Torres. After competing in the 2010 J.J.
Johnson Jazz Trombone Competition in Austin, Texas, Paul moved to the Texas capital
city and has quickly become one of the city’s first call trombonists. He is currently
playing with musical groups; Progger(an offshoot of Snarky Puppy), Aaron Goldfarb
and the Moonlighters, Sauce the Band, What Made Milwaukee Famous, and Jumpstart
among many others in the area. Mr. Deemer is a current student of international Jazz
artists/educator/clinicians Andre Hayward and Willie Thomas and is also a current
member, along with Professor Hayward, of the award winning Texas jazz trombone
ensemble Jazz Bonez. Paul can regularly be seen performing with his own group at the
Elephant Room and at home and abroad as a member of the the internationally
acclaimed Rock outfit, The Polyphonic Spree.
