This is an extraordinary opportunity to hear and see three experts performing music and dance of the Hindustani tradition.
Amie Maciszewski is a sitarist, ethnomusicologist, and Hindustani music educator. She trained initially in Santiniketan, India, under the late Prof. Suresh Misra, and has performed throughout North America, in India, Europe, and Japan, and has taught in North America since 1986. She has received awards and grants for her work as teaching artist, ensemble director, scholar, and documentary filmmaker.
A vibrant stage presence, utmost rhythmic command, and nuanced expressions best describe the performances of Kathak dancer Shila Mehta. Her choreography reflects a charming blend of philosophical, spiritual, and emotional essence, evident in her personality. She serves as Artistic Director of the Nupur Zankar Academy of Performing Arts in her home base, Mumbai.
Born into a nationally respected family of musicians, Gourisankar Karmakar, began studying tabla at the age of three under the able guidance of his father, respected tabla player Shib Shankar Karmakar. A graduate of Calcutta University, Gourisankar holds advanced degrees in Hindustani music, with a specialization in tabla, from several prestigious institutions. His extensive international tours over the past 20 years have taken him throughout Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the US, where he has enchanted audiences with both his solo playing and accompanying.
