Piersol-Dunn Scholarship

Application Instructions

1) The amount of the scholarship can vary, but will normally be in the range of $200 - $1000 per year.

2) Students who are eligible to apply must be:
  • incoming freshmen, transfers, graduate students or current freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students
  • incoming freshmen must have a minimum ACT Composite score of 27 or an SAT score of 1150, or be in the top 10% of his/her graduating class
  • incoming graduate students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA on all previous undergraduate work
  • transfer students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA
  • current Texas State freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA
  • majors in International Studies
3) Students must reapply for the scholarship every year and must remain a major in International Studies. 

4) The basic criteria for awarding scholarships will be merit.  Merit will be determined by GPA, letters of reference, or other appropriate measures as specified in the eligibility criteria above.

5) Steps to be taken:
  • Applicants will complete the special Piersol-Dunn Scholarship Application form and include official transcripts of all college work attempted; incoming freshmen will submit their high school transcript.
  • Applicants can include a list of references with their Piersol-Dunn Scholarship application or schedule an on-campus interview. Please ask the references to send their letters, on the forms provided, directly to the Director of the Center for International Studies no later than December 1st.  Relatives are not considered suitable references. If references cannot be obtained, an on-campus interview must be scheduled.
  • Applicants should submit with the application a separate two-page typed essay that describes their career goals.
  • Applicants should mail or deliver the application, along with the essay and list of references, to the Center for International Studies no later than 5 p.m. on December 1st or the first business day after December 1st if that day falls on a weekend or holiday.Interviews may be conducted on campus shortly after February 1.  Announcements of those awarded the scholarship will be made about March 1.

7) Misinformation or misrepresentation will be sufficient reason for cancellation of an awarded scholarship.

8) Undergraduate and graduate-level Piersol-Dunn Scholars must enroll for at least 15 hours and 9 hours per semester, respectively.

9) Piersol-Dunn Scholars are required to maintain an overall and semester-by-semester Texas State GPA of 3.5 or above.  Failure to comply with this provision shall constitute grounds for the forfeiture of the scholarship.
