Ronald and Colette Johnson Foreign Affairs Scholarship

Scholarship Information and Instructions

1) The amount of the scholarship can vary, but will normally be in the range of $200 - $1000 per year.

2) Students who are eligible to apply must be:
  • accepted to Texas State University
  • incoming freshmen, transfers, graduate students or current freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students
    • incoming freshmen must have a minimum ACT Composite score of 27 or an SAT score of 1150, or be in the top 10% of his/her graduating class
    • incoming graduate students must have a minimum 3.25 GPA on all previous undergraduate work
    • transfer students must have a minimum 3.25 GPA
    • current Texas State freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students must have a minimum 3.25 GPA
  • a major in International Studies

3) Students must reapply for the scholarship every year and must remain a major in International Studies.

4) This is a merit-based scholarshp.  Merit will be determined by GPA, letters of reference, or other appropriate measures as specified in the eligibility criteria above.

5) Application process:
  • Complete the Ronald & Colette Johnson Foreign Affairs Scholarship Application.
  • Submit with the application a separate two-page typed essay that describes their career goals.
  • List three references on the References form.
  • Please ask the references to send their letters, on the forms provided, directly to the Director of the Center for International Studies.   Relatives are not considered suitable references. If references cannot be obtained, an on-campus interview must be scheduled.
  • Mail or deliver the application, along with the essay and list of references, to the Center for International Studies no later than 5 p.m. on December 1st or the first business day after December 1st if that day falls on a weekend or holiday.
  • Incoming graduate students who did not graduate from Texas State University must also submit a transcript from the institution awarding the first bachelor's degree, including the most current course work completed. 
 
6) Interviews may be conducted on campus shortly after February 1.  Announcements of those awarded the scholarship will be made about March 1.

7) Misinformation or misrepresentation will be sufficient reason for cancellation of an awarded scholarship.

8) Undergraduate and graduate-level Johnson Scholars must enroll for at least 15 hours and 9 hours per semester, respectively.

9) Johnson Scholars are required to maintain an overall and semester-by-semester Texas State GPA of 3.25 or above.  Failure to comply with this provision shall constitute grounds for the forfeiture of the scholarship.
