Crown Scholarship

The Crown Scholarship is funded through the generosity of W. Ross and Martha King.  It is intended for students who wish to major in International Studies in the College of Liberal Arts or in any degree in the College of Business and who aspire to a career in the international arena.

The amount of the scholarship can vary, but will normally be in the range of $1000 per person per year.

Students who are eligible to apply:
1.  May be incoming freshmen, transfers, graduate students or current freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students
•    incoming freshmen must have a minimum ACT Composite score of 27 or an SAT score of 1150, or be in the top 10% of         his/her graduating class
•    incoming graduate students must have a minimum 3.2 GPA on all previous undergraduate work
•    transfer students must have a minimum 3.2 GPA
•    current Texas State freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students must have a minimum 3.2 GPA

2.  Must be majors in International Studies or the College of Business

3.  Must be fluent in a second language

Students must reapply for the scholarship every year and must remain a major in International Studies or Business.

The criteria for awarding scholarships is merit.  Merit will be determined by GPA, letters of reference, or other appropriate measures as specified in the eligibility criteria above.

Application Process:

1.  Applicants will complete a Crown Scholarship Application and will provide transcripts of all college work attempted
•    incoming freshmen will submit their high school transcript and a letter from
•    their high school principal or counselor indicating their place in their graduating class if their place is not indicated on the transcript.

2.  Applicants should include a list of references with their Crown Scholarship application and request that the references send their letters on the forms provided directly to the Director of the Center for International Studies no later than March 1, 2008. Relatives are not considered suitable references.  Letters should be in English or accompanied by a good translation into English.

3.  Applicants should submit with the application a separate 2-5 page typed essay that describes their career goals.

4.  Applicants should mail or deliver the application, along with the transcripts, essay, and list of references to the Center for International Studies no later than 5 p.m. on March 1st or the first business day after March 1st if that day falls on a weekend or holiday. 

The Dean of the College of Business and the Director of the Center for International Studies or their designees will rank the applicants.  Announcements of those awarded the scholarship will be made in conjunction with normal scholarship award announcements.

Misinformation or misrepresentation will be sufficient reason for cancellation of an awarded scholarship.

Undergraduates must enroll for at least 12 hours and graduate students must enroll for at least 6 hours each semester to hold a Crown Scholarship.  Exceptions can be made in the final semester of a degree program.
