M.A. in International Studies
Admission and Application Requirements

1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a 3.0 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale) in the last 60 hours leading to the degree.

2. Mastery of the English language. International students must have an official TOEFL score of 550 paper-based (or 213 computer-based).

3. Proficiency in the speaking, reading, and oral comprehension of a modern language other than English demonstrated through one of the following: grade of "B" or better in a modern language course beyond the second year and taken within the last three years at an accredited college, university, or language institute (if longer than three years with no significant involvement in the language, the students may be asked to take a refresher course); or passing a foreign language exam that would demonstrate proficiency levels in reading, speaking, and listening that would place the student beyond the second year of language courses; or a recent foreign living experience of at least six continuous months duration in a non-English speaking country outside the United States.

4. Successful completion of micro- and macro-economics or the equivalent.

5. An official Texas State University-San Marcos Graduate College Application for admission. The application, along with other information, can be printed from the Texas State Graduate College website at www.gradcollege.txstate.edu/

6. Two official transcripts from each school attended on file in the Graduate College.

7. A Center for International Studies Application for admission (see below).

8. Submission to the Center, with its application, an admission essay of 2-5 pages that describes why the student is considering the International Studies Program, how it fits into a process of professional development, and what the student hopes to accomplish by enrolling in the program.

9. Submission to the Center, with its application, at least two letters of recommendation from professors with whom you have worked as an undergraduate or graduate student. Letters must be in sealed envelopes with the professors' signatures over the seal.
