The Center for International Studies proudly announces the opening of
competition for the Helen Ratliff Cleaves Memorial Fellowship for
2008-2009. The Helen Ratliff Cleaves Memorial Fellows Program is a unique
scholarship program that focuses on Latin America and is the result of a
generous endowment by Janet and Kent Acord.
This year, the Program will entail work and study in Honduras from June to
August, 2009, including teaching ESL at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional
Francisco Morazán in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The endowment pays the
preponderance of costs, including airfare, tuition and fees, room and
board, and a small daily stipend. Students are also required to apply for
a Study Abroad Scholarship from Texas State as part of the award. The
award averages about $4,000 per student, and I am anticipating that at
least four students will win Cleaves Fellowships this year. Additionally,
students will receive 6-hours of graduate internship credit that will apply
towards their MA degree requirements.
Application eligibility requirements require you to be a graduate student
accepted (or pending acceptance for Summer I, 2009) and in good standing,
with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, and have a working knowledge of the Spanish
language. I cordially invite you to fill out the attached application and
mail or hand carry it to the Center for International Studies, Lampasas
503, by December 1, 2008.
I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes.
Sincerely yours,
Dennis Dunn, Director
Center for International Studies
