The Center for International Studies proudly announces the opening of competition for the Helen Ratliff Cleaves Memorial Fellowship for 2012. The Helen Ratliff Cleaves Memorial Fellows Program is a unique scholarship program that focuses on Latin America and is the result of a generous endowment by Janet and Kent Acord.
This year, the Program will entail work and study in Honduras from June to August, 2012, including teaching ESL at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán in Tegucigalpa, or at another selected educational institution in Honduras. The endowment pays the preponderance of costs, including airfare, tuition and fees, room and board, and a small daily stipend. Students are also required to apply for the International Education Fee Scholarship (IEFS) through the Office of Study Abroad from Texas State as part of the award. The award averages about $4,000 per student. Generally, four graduate students will win the Cleaves Fellowship each year. Additionally, students will receive 6-hours of graduate internship credit that will apply towards their MA degree requirements.
Application eligibility requirements require you to be a graduate student accepted (or pending acceptance for Summer I, 2012) and in good standing, with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, and have a working knowledge of the Spanish language. I cordially invite you to fill out the attached application and mail or hand carry it to the Center for International Studies, Lampasas 503. Application deadline is November 15, 2011.
