2016-2017 International Studies Administrator of the Year

The Center recognized Dr. Mary Brennan as the International Studies Administrator of the Year! Dr. Brennan is the chair of the History Department and is the incoming Dean of the College of Liberal Arts beginning 2017-2018. 

2016-2017 International Studies Professor of the Year

The Center recognized Dr. Jennifer Devine as the 2016-2017 International Studies Professor of the Year. Dr. Devine is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography. Her research interests include human-environmental relations, Latin American - US politics, and critical social theory.

Spring 2017

The Obama Legacy? Preliminary Perspectives

This two-day interdisciplinary conference was hosted by The Center for International Studies on February 2-3, 2017.  Prominent scholars from universities across Texas and the United States joined professionals in law, journalism, diplomacy, healthcare and criminal justice to discuss the likely domestic and foreign policy legacies of the Obama administration. Jeremi Suri, Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Global Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin delivered a keynote address. H.W. Brands, Jack Blanton Sr. Chair in History at the University of Texas at Austin also delivered a keynote on the second day of the conference. The Center also hosted James K. Galbraith, Lloyd Bentsen Jr. Chair in Government/Business. 



FALL 2016

Dr. Dunn - Regents Professor

Congratulations to Dr. Dennis Dunn, Director of the Center for International Studies on being named Regents Professor by the Texas State University Board of Regents!

Dr. Paul Hart visits Texas Southmost College

Dr. Paul Hart, Associate Director for the Center for International Studies, gave a lecture at Texas Southmost College. The lecture was entitled "Emiliano Zapata: Myth, Memory, and Meaning"

Lecture: Comparative Messianism

Professor Kurt Richardson received his doctorate at the University of Basel, Switzerland and is a member of the faculties of theology of McMaster and Toronto Universities as well as professor of Abrahamic Studies at Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics in Dallas. He is a co-founder of two research groups in the American Academy of Religion: Society for Scriptural Reasoning and Comparative Theology. 

The talk was co-sponsored by the Center for International Studies, the Department of History, and the Department of Philosophy.

Summer 2016

2015-2016 International Studies Professor of the Year

The Center for International Studies would like to congratulate Dr. Robert Gorman from the Department of Political Science as the International Studies Professor of the year! Dr. Gorman's areas of interests include International Relations, International Law/Organization, International Humanitarian and Refugee Affairs, and History of Ethics. Thank you Dr. Gorman for your continued support of International Studies students!

2015-2016 International Studies Administrator the Year

The Center for International Studies would also like to congratulate Dr. Denise Smart as the 2015-2016 International Studies Administrator of the year! Dr. Smart is the Dean of the McCoy College of Business Administration. Thank you Dr. Smart for your continued support of International Studies students!

Spring 2016

Lecture: The European Union and Business

The Center For International Studies welcomed Mr. Robert P. Braubach for a presentation on the European Union Mr. Braubach worked in the Competition Directorate of the European Commission of the European Union. He subsequently practiced at two prominent U.S. international law firms, represents the Government of Belgium as Honorary Consul for South Texas, the Republic of Namibia as Honorary Consul, and is an economic advisor to the Embassy of the Czech Republic.


Panel: Perspectives on the International Refugee Crisis

The Center for International Studies hosted a panel entitled Perspectives on the International Refugee Crisis. The Center  invited Dr. Elizabeth Bishop from the Department of History, Dr. Robert Gorman from The Department of Political Science, and Dr. Brian Cooper from the Department of Geography to serve as the panelists for the event. 

International Studies Mixer

The Center had its annual mixer. It provided a great opportunity for international studies students to network with their  peers, learn more about our student organizations, and also get information about our graduate program. Undergrads, International Studies Club, Sigma Iota Rho, and Pi Gamma Mu members, graduate students, and professors were all present. 

Lecture: Islam in Liberalism

The Center for International Studies  welcomed Dr. Joseph Massad for a special guest lecture on his new book, Islam in Liberalism.
