| The Institute for Environmental and Industrial Science (IEIS) applies the multidisciplinary, scientific, and technological expertise of Texas State University - San Marcos to the solutions of industrial and environmental problems. For the past decade, the component parts of the IEIS have taken root on the campus of Texas State University. These components include polymer science (plastics recycling, polymer synthesis, characterization and processing development of flame-resistant resins), analytical technology, supercritical fluid technology, coatings technology, biotechnology, public outreach and education and other scientific disciplines of importance to industry and environmental technology. The IEIS originated with an initial endowment from Formosa Plastics Corporation in 1993. The Institute is supported by public and private grants, as well as by private funds for services rendered by teams of experts in a timely manner. With the background in place at Texas State, the Institute's strength lies in the ability to assemble high-quality academic teams to solve industrial problems effectively and efficiently.
