TSIE's Bridge Program is for undergraduate, graduates, and doctoral students who have been conditionally-admitted to Texas State University on the basis that they have not yet met the university's TOEFL/IELTS language requirements for full admission (TOEFL: 78 iBT, 550 PBT, 210 CBT or IELTS: 6.5). These students are accepted to Texas State by the Undergraduate Admissions Office or Graduate College who then requires students to enroll in intensive English classes with the TSIE department.
Students not interested in enrolling in a degree program at Texas State will not qualify for the Bridge Program and, instead, should research TSIE's non-conditional admission program: the Intensive English Program (IEP).
The Bridge Program requires students to first apply to Texas State University online at ApplyTexas. Upon successful acceptance to Texas State, the Undergraduate Admissions Office or the Graduate College will grant students a Texas State University-issued Form I-20 and a conditional agreement letter stating their requirement to enroll in intensive English classes and complete placement testing.
All Bridge students will be required to enroll in the 2 core TSIE classes (reading, listening/speaking, writing, and grammar) for 10 hours per week as well as 1 academic class from their major for 3 hours per week. The students will be allowed to complete all TSIE classes from level 1500 to 4550. After completing all four 4550-level TSIE classes, students will become fully-admitted students and drop their conditional-admission status.
During the semester, all Bridge students will be encouraged to take the TOEFL or IELTS tests as to expedite their status change to full admission. If a student passes a TOEFL or IELTS exam during the semester, gaining more than the minimum required score for full admission study, the student will be allowed to drop their conditional admission status at the end of the semester and will be allowed to enroll as a fully-admitted student in the following semester.
The following scores reflect the minimums required for admission to the Pre-Bridge Program. If a student has earned more than these scores, they may be eligible for the Bridge Program or for non-conditional admission (full admission). If a student has earned scores lower than these minimums, they will be encouraged to research the Intensive English Program (IEP).

| TOEFL iBT | 59-77 |
