• What is the purpose of the TSIE Non-degree seeking student admission?
To allow international students to improve their English language proficiency while taking academic classes. Eligible students enroll in intensive English and in academic classes at the same time. Non-degree seeking student admission is NOT an admission into a degree-seeking program.
• Who is eligible for this admission?
The international student with TOEFL between 500-547 (paper); 173-210 (CBT); or 59-77 (iBT) with all section scores of 14 or higher. The student may or may not have met all other admission requirements (i.e. "passing" GMAT or GRE, "pass" on the music audition, etc.).
• Is this admission possible for more than one semester?
Yes, BUT you must renew this status with the Graduate College EACH SEMESTER.
• How many academic classes can a TSIE Non-degree seeking student take?
A maximum of 6 graduate or undergraduate credit hours over a period of 2 semesters. No more than 3 graduate credit hours may be earned in 1 semester. Courses taken while in non-degree status cannot be applied toward a degree.
• How many intensive English classes should this student take?
In general, students must be enrolled in at least 2 intensive English classes. However, some students may need to enroll in more than two classes due to low TOEFL subsection scores.
