Requirements for admission for the Graduate College

1 Complete Graduate College application. Indicate Bridge Student Admission.
2 Submit US $90 non-refundable graduate application fee.
3 Submit two official transcripts with certified English translations of post-secondary education.
   Submit either original documents or copies certified by your school or U.S. embassy or consulate official.
4 Submit statement of financial support & documentary proof of sufficient financial resources.
5 Submit official TOEFL score between 500 and 547 PBT; 173 and 210 CBT or 59-77 iBT with
   all section scores of 14 or higher.
6 Verify with the Graduate College additional requirements needed. Grade Point requirements (GPA)
   vary with degree programs.

Requirements for admission for TSIE

Submit US $20 non-refundable TSIE application fee.

After being granted TSIE Bridge admission, the student needs to
1 Complete TSIE testing before enrolling in any academic classes. Contact TSIE to schedule testing.
2 Consult with the department advisor. Identify yourself as a TSIE Bridge student. Determine academic
   class and schedule.
3 (F1 students only) Complete Course Underload Form (available at TSIE or International Office)
   before academic class registration.
4 Registrar's office - academic class registration. TSIE - intensive English registration.

The Graduate College: Changing from TSIE/Bridge to Regular Admission

The TSIE bridge student earns admission to full-time academic study by
1 achieving TOEFL minimum of 550 PBT or 213 CBT or 78 iBT with minimum section scores
   of 19/reading;19/listening; 19/speaking; 18/writing
2 completing all other admission/department requirements (i.e. GMAT, GRE, etc.)
3 completing each credit-bearing course with a grade of "B" or better
4 completing each intensive English class with a composite grade of "B" or better

FAQs

• What is the purpose of the TSIE Bridge admission?
To allow international students to improve their English language proficiency while taking academic classes. Eligible students enroll in intensive English and in academic classes at the same time.

Is this bridge admission available for all degree programs?
No, not all graduate degree programs at Texas State have the bridge program. Consult with your department or the Graduate College.

Who is eligible for this admission?
The international student with TOEFL between 500-547 (paper); 173-210 (CBT); or 59-77 (iBT) with all section scores of 14 or higher. The student must meet all other admission requirements.

Is this admission possible for more than one semester?
Yes, BUT this status must be renewed with the Graduate College EACH SEMESTER.

How many academic classes can a TSIE Bridge student take?
A maximum of 6 graduate or undergraduate credit hours over a period of 2 semesters. No more than 3 graduate credit hours may be earned in 1 semester.

How many intensive English classes should this student take?
In general, students must be enrolled in at least 2 intensive English classes. However, some students may need to enroll in more than two classes due to low TOEFL subsection scores.
