The mission of Texas State Intensive English (TSIE) is to provide academic English programs to international students, scholars, and professionals for the goals of academic readiness, test preparation, self-improvement, and cultural integration.
In pursuit of the mission stated above,
The TSIE Program offers non-credit-bearing, academic-based, intensive English programs to international students and Texas State University faculty and staff focusing on reading, listening, speaking, writing, grammar, American culture, and test preparation. Classes are offered 4 days per week each semester (fall, spring, and summer) for 15 weeks in the fall and spring or 10 weeks in the summer. All TSIE classes are housed on the main campus of Texas State University-San Marcos and are conducted by professionally-trained instructors with advanced degrees in Foreign Language Education, TESOL, and/or English.
Through participation in TSIE classes, students will engage in activities and assignments geared toward improving academic English proficiency and ultimately obtain the tools necessary to succeed in freshmen-level undergraduate and graduate courses at the university level. Students will be evaluated before, during, and after their participation in TSIE to ensure proficiency goals are met and allow for a smooth and successful transition for language training to participation in credit-bearing degree programs.
TSIE is currently undergoing the accreditation process with the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and expects to complete the process by the summer of 2014.
