Scholarship Opportunities

Freshmen applying for scholarships should complete the Texas State standard application, which is due by December 1 in the year preceding the fall semester of the academic year that the student wants to attend Texas State. (For example, applications are due December 1, 2010 for students who will enter Texas State in fall 2011.)  To be considered for the University Honors Program and Craddock scholarships, students will also need to apply and be accepted into the University Honors Program.

Terry Foundation Scholarship

15 scholarships awarded, each for $11,500 annually

The Terry Foundation Scholarship pays for up to the full cost of tuition and fees, room and board, books, and other expenses. The average value of the award is $55,000 over four years ($13,750 per year) with the amount of the award modified according to financial need. The intent of this award is to allow recipients the opportunity to have a complete college experience and concentrate on their academic pursuits.

Eligibility Criteria

Typically top 10 percent;
            and
Minimum SAT: 1200;
           and/or
Minimum ACT: 25

Application Procedures and Deadlines

  • Apply for admission to Texas State University at www.applytexas.org. Applicants will automatically be considered for the Terry Scholarship if they are eligible based upon the review of their application.

Honors Program Scholarships

12 scholarships awarded, each $1,000 annually

Eligibility Criteria

  • Awarded to freshmen and currently enrolled students who have been accepted into the University Honors Program
  • Applicants must demonstrate academic strength and engagement in the community and maintain a semester grade point average of at least 3.25
  • Applicants must enroll in at least 12 hours per semester
  • Applicants must reapply each year and meet all eligibility requirements

Application Procedures and Deadlines

  • Continuing students: by 5 p.m. on March 1, turn in completed Texas State Scholarship Application to the scholarship office in JCK 240 for scholarships awarded in the following fall semester
  • Incoming freshmen: must turn in completed application by December 1, for scholarships awarded in the following fall semester.  Students must have been accepted to Texas State and apply through the regular scholarship application

Emmie Craddock Scholarship

Three scholarships awarded, each $1,500 annually

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must enroll at Texas State with a major in chemistry, english, history or physics, or enter the University Honors Program
  • Currently enrolled or transfer students who meet the criteria above must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher
  • Incoming freshmen must have an ACT composite score of 27 or above, SAT composite score of 1150 or above, or rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school graduating class
  • Recipients are required to maintain an overall and semester grade point average of 3.5 or above
  • Recipients are expected to enroll in at least 15 credit-hours per semester
  • Must reapply each year and meet all eligibility requirements

Application Procedures and Deadlines

  • Continuing students: by 5 p.m., March 1, turn in completed Texas State Scholarship Application to the scholarship office in JCK 240 for scholarships awarded in the following fall semester.  Students should also e-mail to honors@txstate.edu with information that they will be applying for the Craddock Scholarship.
  • Incoming freshmen: must turn in the completed application by December 1, for scholarships awarded in the following fall semester.  Students must have been accepted to Texas State and apply through the regular scholarship application.
