Eligibility requirements for the Honors College is dependent on a student's status (e.g. freshman, transfer student).  Please review the appropriate category for information on eligibility into the program:

Incoming Freshmen

Eligibility Criteria

• Entering freshmen from the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class, or
• Entering freshmen with a composite score of 27 on the ACT, or
• Entering freshman with a composite score of 1180 on the SAT (math and verbal scores combined)

Current & Transfer Students

Eligibility Criteria

• Current or transfer students are encouraged to apply if they have a GPA of at least 3.25

Students transferring to Texas State Univeristy must have at least 12 semester hours of course work completed to qualify as transfer students. Please note that the University Honors Program is willing to give recognized credit for honors courses taken at a previous institution. To discuss the transferring honors credit please set up an appointment with an Honors Advisor.

Note: There is no deadline for Honors College applications. However, signup for honors classes usually begins during the previous semester.  If a course has more students signed up than there are spots available, applicants will be put on a waiting list and a spot in the class is not guaranteed.
