Scholarship Opportunities

Honors College Current and Transfer Students

The Honors College offers current and transfer students several scholarships: Honors College Scholarship, Stephen R. Gregg Presidential Endowed Scholarship, Merry Kone FitzPatrick Endowed Scholarship, Jim and Elizabeth Camp Scholarship, and the Emmie Craddock Scholarship. Please read below for details and requirements for each scholarship. The deadline for all continuing and transfer scholarships is March 9, 2017.

Freshman Scholarships - Students who receive the President's Honor Scholarship, Terry Foundation Scholarship, National Merit Scholarship, or National Hispanic Scholarship are automatically admitted to the Honors College.

Honors College Scholarship

Twelve to eighteen Honors College Scholarships are awarded annually for $1,000.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Awarded to transfer and currently enrolled students who have been accepted into the Honors College.
  • Applicants must demonstrate academic strength and engagement in the community and maintain a semester grade point average of at least 3.25.
  • Applicants must enroll in at least 12 hours per semester.
  • Applicants must reapply each year and meet all eligibility requirements.

Application Requirements

  • Completion of online application
  • Resume that includes:
    • Awards and honors received
    • Other scholarships awarded (including amounts)
    • Work experience, extracurricular activities and interests
  • Essay
  • Two letters of recommendation. Please note that letters from high school teachers and counselors are strongly discouraged as letters should reflect your work in college.
  • Deadline is March 9.

Selection Process

  • The scholarship committee will select the best-qualified applicants.

Selection Criteria

  • Applicants will be evaluated on:
    • Their past academic achievement, as evidenced by their GPA and letters of recommendation.
    • Their active participation in Honors College.
    • Their future academic promise (as evidenced in letters of recommendation).

Stephen R. Gregg Presidential Endowed Scholarship

This scholarships is awarded once per academic year for an amount between $2,500 and $5,500. This amount is dependent on funding availability. The award amount is made available for the academic year with disbursement given on a semester basis (half paid in fall, half paid in spring). 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Awarded to currently enrolled students who have been accepted into the Honors College.
  • Applicants must demonstrate academic strength and engagement in the honors community and maintain a semester grade point average of at least 3.25.
  • Applicants must enroll in at least 12 hours per semester.
  • Applicants must reapply each year and meet all eligibility guidelines.
  • Applicants are expected to acknowledge their award with a thank you letter to Mr. Gregg.

Application Requirements

  • Completion of online application
  • Resume that includes:
    • Awards and honors received
    • Other scholarships awarded (including amounts)
    • Work experience, extracurricular activities and interests
  • Essay
  • Two letters of recommendation. Please note that letters from high school teachers and counselors are strongly discouraged as letters should reflect your work in college.

Merry Kone FitzPatrick Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually in honor of Professor Merry Kone FitzPatrick. The number of awards given will depend on funding availability. Awards range from $1,000 - $5,000 per year. These scholarship awards are made for the academic year and must be disbursed on a semester basis (half paid in fall, half paid in spring).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Awarded to currently enrolled undergraduates who are active members of Alpha Lambda Delta or active members of the Honors College.
  • Applicants must demonstrate academic strength and engagement in the community.
  • Applicants must maintain a semester grade point average of at least 3.50.
  • Applicants must enroll in at least 12 hours per semester.
  • Applicants must demonstrate participation in Alpha Lambda Delta and must have paid the Alpha Lambda Delta initiation and lifetime membership fee.
  • Applicants must reapply each year and meet all eligibility requirements.
  • Applicants are expected to acknowledge their award with a thank you letter to members of the FitzPatrick family.

    • Their future academic promise (as evidenced in letters of recommendation).

Jim and Elizabeth Camp Scholarship

Depending on funding availability, one Jim and Elizabeth Camp Scholarship is awarded annually for $500-$1,000. Students must reapply each year and maintain the requirements of the scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Available to students majoring in English or Physics OR who are active members of the Honors College. 
  • Applicants must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.3 or above.
  • Applicants must have a Junior/Senior standing (60 credit hours) and be enrolled full-time.

Emmie Craddock Scholarship

This $1,500 scholarship is awarded annually in honor of Dr. Emmie Craddock. The number of scholarships awarded will depend on funding availability. These scholarship awards are made for the academic year and must be disbursed on a semester basis (half paid in fall, half paid in spring).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Awarded to transfer and continuing (currently enrolled) students.
  • Applicants must be enrolled at Texas State with a major in Chemistry, English, History or Physics, OR be an active member of the Honors College.
  • Continuing (currently enrolled) or transfer students who meet the criteria above must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  • Recipients are required to maintain an overall and semester grade point average of 3.5 or above.
  • Applicants must reapply each year and meet all eligibility requirements.
  • Applicants must enroll in at least 15 hours per semester.
