The honors course proposal form (see link below) must be submitted for all new courses. Proposals are due November 1 to be considered for the following academic year. (For example, to propose a course for Fall 2009 or Spring 2010, proposals will be reviewed in Fall 2008.) After proposals are received, we will schedule an interview of all faculty proposing new courses with a curriculum committee of honors faculty and students.
Honors students completing their thesis to graduate in the University Honors Program must enroll in HON 4390B. Each student must have signed approval from a thesis supervisor to register for this course. Supervising an honors student’s thesis is equivalent to directing an independent study with the completed honors thesis resulting at the end of the semester.
We encourage all faculty supervisors to meet regularly with their students as the particular project demands. Examples of previous undergraduate theses can be found on the ecommons website. Each honors student turns in a rough draft to the honors director at the midpoint of the semester and will make an oral presentation at the honors thesis forum near the end of the semester. The thesis forum presentations are attended by the thesis supervisor and are also open to the public.
Students who complete the honors thesis to graduate in the University Honors Program are listed in the commencement booklet with the title of their thesis and supervising professor’s name and department. Faculty supervising honors theses are presented a certificate and a letter of acknowledgement as well.
