Honors Thesis Grant

Honors Thesis Grant funds, designed for scholarly research, creative activity and travel to conferences, are awarded in the fall and spring semesters. Students may apply for one grant only for a maximum award of $500.

 Eligibility Criteria

• Any Texas State honors student enrolled in Hon 4390B Honors Thesis or Hon 4390A Honors Senior Seminar is eligible to apply
.

Application Procedures and Deadlines

• Applicants must submit three copies of the proposal.
• The application and budget request must be co-signed by the thesis supervisor.
• The project description should be typed and written in clear, jargon-free language. 


• The applicant must demonstrate the importance of funding for completion of the thesis or for presentation of the research results. 



All equipment or supplies purchased with the thesis grant funds belong to the university and/or department and are not to be considered for the grantee's exclusive use once the grant has been completed.

 Thesis Grant Budget Regulations
  

• The budget must be specific and clearly justified. A budget narrative must be attached on a separate sheet as a part of the proposal; the description must be complete.
• The fall grant budget period is September 1 through August 31.
• The spring grant period is January 1 through August 31.
• The Honors Thesis Grant Committee may adjust budgets and allotments as necessary to award the thesis grants to as many worthy applicants as possible.
• Funding is contingent upon completion of the honors thesis by graduation. Recipients who do not complete the thesis by graduation must reimburse the University Honors Program for the amount of the grant.

Thesis Grant Criteria Review 


Funds will be allocated in the fall and in the spring to provide for scholarly research, creative pursuits, and travel to participate in conferences. Eligible requests for research equipment and hardware, travel, and per diem to a research location will be considered. No funds will be made available for routine photocopying of the final thesis.

Proposals will be judged according to their compliance with the following:

• A clear, non-technical description of the proposed budget.
• A statement of the importance of the proposed thesis grant in contributing to the quality of the honors thesis.
• A clear, non-technical explanation of the project's methodology and procedures.
• A budget justification for the proposed project.
