Scholarship Opportunities

Scholarship opportunities for continuing students

The scholarships listed below are for continuing students.  Students should apply by submitting the Texas State scholarship application by March 1 of each year. 

 


Honors Program Scholarships

12 scholarschips awarded, each $1,000 annually

Eligibility Criteria

  • awarded to freshmen and currently enrolled students who have been accepted into the University Honors Program
  • applicants must demonstrate academic strength and engagement in the community and maintain a semester grade point average of at least 3.25
  • applicants must enroll in at least 12 hours per semester
  • applicants must reapply each year and meet all eligibility requirements


Application Procedures and Deadlines

  • continuing students: by 5 p.m. on March 1, turn in completed Texas State Scholarship Application to the scholarship office in JCK 240 for scholarships awarded in the following fall semester
  • incoming freshmen: must turn in completed application by December 1, for scholarships awarded in the following fall semester.  Students must have been accepted to Texas State and apply through the regular scholarship application

Emmie Craddock Scholarship

three scholarships awarded, each $1,500 annually

Eligibility Criteria

  • applicants must enroll at Texas State with a major in chemistry, english, history or physics, or enter the University Honors Program
  • currently enrolled or transfer students who meet the criteria above must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher
  • incoming freshmen must have an ACT composite score of 27 or above, SAT composite score of 1150 or above, or rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school graduating class
  • recipients are required to maintain an overall and semester grade point average of 3.5 or above
  • recipients are expected to enroll in at least 15 credit-hours per semester
  • must reapply each year and meet all eligibility requirements

Merry Kone FitzPatrick Endowed Scholarship

two scholarships awarded, at $1,000 annually


Eligibility Criteria

  • awarded to currently enrolled sophomores, juniors, or seniors with preference to students who have been accepted into the University Honors Program who are active members of Alpha Lambda Delta
  • applicants must demonstrate academic strength and engagement in the community
  • applicants must maintain a semester grade point average of at least 3.50
  • applicants must enroll in at least 12 hours per semester
  • applicants must demonstrate participation in Alpha Lambda Delta and must have paid the Alpha Lambda Delta initiation and lifetime membership fee
  • applicants must must reapply each year and meet all eligibility requirements


Application Procedures and Deadlines

  • continuing students: by 5 p.m. on March 1, turn in completed Texas State Scholarship Application to the scholarship office in JCK 240 for scholarships awarded in the following fall semester.  Students should also e-mail honors@txstate.edu with information that they will be applying for the MerryKone Scholarship.
  • incoming freshmen: must turn in completed application by December 1, for scholarships awarded in the following fall semester.  Students must have been accepted to Texas State and apply through the regular scholarship application.

 

 

Honors Program Thesis Grant

Any Texas State honors student enrolled in Honors Thesis or Honors Research Methods is eligible to apply.

Applicants may submit only one proposal.

Honors Thesis Grant funds are designed for scholarly research, creative activity and travel to conferences.

All equipment or supplies purchased with the thesis grant funds belong to the university and/or department and are not to be considered for the grantee's exclusive use once the grant has been completed.

If any funds remain in the Thesis Research Grant account after awards have been presented, these funds will be returned to student fees account.

Thesis Grant Budget Regulations

      The budget must be specific and clearly justified. A budget narrative must be attached on a separate sheet as a part of the proposal; the description must be complete.

      The maximum award for the Honors Thesis Grant is $500.

      The fall grant budget period is September 1 through August 31.

      The spring grant period is January 1 through August 31.

      The Honors Thesis Grant Committee may adjust budgets and allotments as applicable.

      Funding is contingent upon completion of the honors thesis by graduation. Recipients who do not complete the thesis by graduation must reimburse the University Honors Program for the amount of the grant.

Thesis Grant Criteria Review

      Funds will be allocated in the fall and in the spring to provide for scholarly research, creative pursuits and travel to participate in conferences. Eligible requests for research equipment and hardware, travel and per diem to a research location will be considered. No funds will be made available for routine photocopying of the final thesis.


      Proposals will be judged according to their compliance with the following:

  •       a clear, non-technical description of the proposed budget
  •       a statement of the importance of the proposed project
  •       a clear, non-technical explanation of the project's methodology and procedures
  •       a budget justification for the proposed project

      The application must be co-signed by the thesis supervisor.

      The project description should be written in clear, jargon-free language.

      The applicant must demonstrate the importance of funding for completion of the thesis or for presentation of the research results.

      Turn in the completed grant application to the University Honors Program office in Lampasas 407.

      The support information should include the following:

  •       description of the proposed study, no more than five pages, double spaced, in 10- or 12-point type
  •       a resume for the student applicant. (The committee may request a standard curriculum vita from the supervising faculty if the student applicant requests funds for travel to conferences.)
  •       budget justification
  •       submit five copies of the completed application to: Associate Director Diann McCabe, University Honors Program, LAMP 407
