Honors Course Approval

How to sign up for an Honors course

Honors students who want to register for an honors course must request special approval.  There are three ways to request approval:

1. By phone

2. By email

3. In person

Special approval begins after Meet the Professor Night and is required before a student can register on CatsWeb.

Requests by Phone and Email

Phone

Students who want to register for an honors course by phone can call the Honors College Front Desk at 512-245-2266.  When calling by phone, you must have the following information readily available: your name, PLID, phone number, Texas State email, graduation date, and course requested.

Email

Students can send an email to honors@txstate.edu with your name, PLID, phone number, Texas State email, graduation date, and course requested.

In Person Requests

Students who request special approval for an honors course in person must fill out a Course Approval Form (see image at right).  These forms are found at the front desk of the Honors College in Lampasas 407.

A student must complete an approval form for each honors course in which he/she is interested in enrolling.  For example, if you want to take 3 honors courses, you must complete 3 separate approval forms.

The following information is required for each form:

  • Name
  • PLID (personal ID#)
  • Phone #
  • Email
  • Course #
  • Title of course
  • Index #
  • Course substitution
  • Graduation date
  • Registration date

Approval Process and Notification

Honors courses are usually limited to 17 seats per class. If more than 17 students request approval for the same course at Meet the Professors Night (the first night course requests can be submitted), the first 17 approvals will be assigned by lottery and will be able to register for the course on the early registarion date. If 17 students do not request approval for a course at Meet the Professors Night, approvals will then be granted to students on a first-come, first-served basis until 17 approvals have been given.

Once these approvals have been granted, students will be contacted.

Note that the lottery and first-come, first-served approval methods only apply to the first day of early online student registration. All course requests wil be given approval after the early registration date. At that time, students will be able to register for any class they requested approval for, so long as there is a seat available in that class.

The entire approval process is designed to ensure that popular courses are evenly distributed among students and that all courses fill.

Once your request has been approved, you can register online using Banner.
