Honors professor and Associate Director Diann McCabe taught HON 3392R Teaching Poetry to Children in the fall semester. Students in this course study the work of poet Kenneth Koch to learn how to teach children to read and write poetry. Using classical poetry and a "poetry idea," students teach poetry to children in elementary and middle school classes, prepare books of the children's original poems, and hold children's poetry readings in the classrooms and in the library.

This is the creative project that Christian Wallace completed for Dr. Erina Duganne's honors class, “The Black Image in Postwar America.” In it he explores the relationship between the Beat poets and Bebop music.
Christian says: "This class has been an educational experience on many different levels. Not only has Dr. Duganne deepened my appreciation for visual art, but my understanding of 'race' has been elevated and sharpened as well."
