  1. Explain how and why your life has been significantly influenced by a person (living or dead), an event or by a particular book.
  2. Use the following statement as a basis for your essay that fully explains your attitude. "As a ______ year-old in this year of ________, I am most optimistic (or pessimistic) about my future in the United States because..."
  3. Describe a challenge and/or hardship to which you have successfully responded. What did you learn about yourself as you responded to this challenge and/or hardship? Describe a challenge you anticipate facing in any aspect of college life. On the basis of what you learned from your earlier response, how do you expect to deal with this challenge?

You may also submit an essay on a topic of your own choosing.

University Honors Living Learning Community

Our program is offering a residential program.  Students will live in an area of Butler Hall that is close to the Honors Coffee Forum in Lampasas Hall and will participate in the community by attending the freshman retreat and taking an honors section of US 1100.  Additional programming related to University Honors will be provided for these students in their residence hall and it will be a great way to live with your fellow honors students.

Located on the new Concho Mall green space and minutes away from the home of the University Honors Program, Butler is a traditional residence hall, meaning that its rooms are double occupancy with a community style bathroom. A total of 2,905 students live in Texas State’s traditional style halls.  These halls offer a true college experience. Butler is co-ed and air conditioned. Ethernet ports are available in every room and every room has moveable furniture.  Butler has numerous study rooms and two community kitchens.

Students who choose this option and are admitted to the honors program will have their names forwarded to Residential Life to have reserved space in Butler Hall as long as space remains available.

(More information about this program is available by calling 512 245 2266 or sending an email with any questions to honors@txstate.edu.)
