All applicants to the University Honors Program must write a focused, well-developed essay of 500 to 750 words (2 1/2 pages) on one of the following topics or any other topic listed on the Texas Common Admission Application. No essay topic listed below is preferred over another.

Explain how and why your life has been significantly influenced by a person (living or dead), an event or by a particular book.
Use the following statement as a basis for your essay that fully explains your attitude. "As a ______ year-old in this year of ________, I am most optimistic (or pessimistic) about my future in the United States because..."
Describe a challenge and/or hardship to which you have successfully responded. What did you learn about yourself as you responded to this challenge and/or hardship? Describe a challenge you anticipate facing in any aspect of college life. On the basis of what you learned from your earlier response, how do you expect to deal with this challenge?
