History Scholarships

The History Department has several scholarships for which students can apply for the 2007-2008 academic year. The deadline for completion of scholarship applications is February 25th.

ALTON G. BRIEGER SCHOLARSHIP
Eligibility Requirements
1. Applicants must be history majors, who have completed at least 30 hours of Texas State University credit
2. Applicants must have completed one of the following - History 2310, 2311, 2312, 2320, or an advanced history course at
Texas State University.
3. Applicants must have a 3.3 g.p.a. in history, and a 3.0 g.p.a overall

Dennis and Margaret Dunn Scholarship
Eligibility Requirements
1. Applicants must be majors in History or International Studies, be current students with a minimum 3.5 GPA or incoming freshmen with a minimum ACT composite of 27 or SAT of 1150 and rank in the top 10% of his/her graduating class.
2. Dunn scholars are required to maintain an overall and semester-by-semester Texas State University GPA of 3.5 or above.

FitzPatrick-Clayton-Kissler Scholarship
Eligibility Requirements
1. This scholarship has the following two preferences:
A. Students who are seeking teacher certification in history
B. or, graduate students who already have their teacher certification but who are continuing their education.
2. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 grade point average overall and in history courses.

TAYLOR-MURPHY SCHOLARSHIP
Eligibility Requirements
1. Applicants must be history majors, who have completed at least 30 hours of Texas State University credit.
2. Applicants must have completed one of the following: History 2310, 2311, 2312, 2320, or an advanced history course at Texas State University .
3. Applicants must have a 3.3 g.p.a. in history, and a 3.0 g.p.a overall.
4. Taylor-Murphy scholars are required to maintain an overall, and semester by semester, GPA of 3.0 overall and 3.3 in history. Scholars must also register for and complete at least 12 hours per semester. Failure to comply will constitute grounds for forfeiture of the Taylor-Murphy Scholarship.

Presidential Upper Level Scholarship
Eligibility Requirements
1. Applicants must have earned 60 or more credits by the time the scholarship is funded (in the fall term).
2. 30 of the 60 credits must have been earned at Texas State University .
3. Students receiving other scholarships funded by Student Service fees are ineligible for Presidential Upper Level Scholarships unless they elect to forfeit the other(s) for that year.

**- Please note that the Presidential Upper Level Scholarship differs from the others listed above. The History Department will choose one nominee, whose name and file will be forwarded onto the College of Liberal Arts. The College will consider all the nominations from various departments, and will award one scholarship of $1,200.
