P-Card Food Policy FAQ's

Can I take faculty and staff out for lunch or dinner in appreciation of their hard work?

No. All meals must be of a business nature and cannot be purchased with the P-Card.

Can I take a prospective faculty member out for lunch or dinner?

Yes. The meeting objective and position in which you are interveiwing for must be documented in writing and a copy given to the Purchasing Office.

If I have a discretionary account or funds, can I take my staff out to lunch?

No. Discretionary accounts are subject to the same rules and regulations as other funding sources.

My account is attached to State funds. Can I purchase food?

No. State accounts may not be used for food purchases.

I purchase food for laboratory use. May I use my P-Card to purchase these items?

Yes. Food for laboratory use may be purchased, but a waiver must be on file with the Purchasing Office.

May I purchase food for animals?

Yes. You may use your P-Card to purchase food for animals that are used for institutional research.

My department sells food products. Can I use my P-Card to purchase these items for resale?

Yes. Food may be purchased for resale if your department is authorized to do such.

Can I purchase food to provide to students during school sponsored events?

Yes. Food may be purchased for student related activities if the activity is sponsored by the University.
