Meeting called to order at 4:00.

Workload Report: The Senate has received the Spring 06 Faculty Workload Report from the Administration.  An ensuing discussion considered possible questions that might be asked as the report is examined.  Some that were raised:

1         How do teaching loads differ?  For graduate faculty?  Undergraduate faculty? Between departments? Between Colleges?

2         For what types of duty do faculty receive release time?

3         Is there equity in workload?  Between faculty ranks?  Between academic departments?  Between colleges?

4         What are average SCH for faculty members?  Compared by rank?  By department?  By college?

It was decided to form a committee to consider the report:  Senators Feakes, Hindson, Homeyer, Montondon and Sorenson volunteered.

Records Retention: The Senate was informed that the Library has a new Faculty Records Archivist.  After some discussion of what possible records might be archived, it was decided to invite AVPL Joan Heath to the October 25th meeting to discuss such retention issues as:

1         Do we have a recently revised records retention policy?

2         How long do we need to retain the following?
            a. tests
            b. graded assignments (papers, lab assignments etc.)
            c. grade books
            d. electronic records like blackboard
            e. records of artistic performance (art projects, music recitals etc.)

3         General student records (degree plans, course subs etc.)

4         Records on non-student clients (counseling records etc.)

5         Has the university developed a storage area where faculty and departments can send records that need to be retained?

Development Leaves:
Development leave packets were circulated with review to begin at the next Senate meeting.  Due to the number of applicants this semester, it was decided to allow seven minutes for each candidate.

Approval of Minutes: Amended minutes for 10/11/06 were approved.
