ALCOHOL OR TOBACCO SPONSORSHIPS THAT ARE ALLOWED UNDER THIS UPPS:

1.   A beer or tobacco sponsor (Miller, Budweiser, Corona, Marlboro, etc.) could serve as a co-sponsor of a student activity like Cancer Bowl, KenDucky Derby, a volleyball tournament, etc., as long as a non-university co-sponsor that is not affiliated with alcohol or marketing is also used (e.g., Kinko's, Nike, HEB, etc.).

2.   As long as a co-sponsored activity or event is taking place, promotional items like key chains, T-shirts, Frisbees, cups, etc. bearing the alcohol or tobacco company's name or logo may be either handed out or sold to people attending or participating in the event.

3.   Flyers, banners, posters, newspaper ads, etc., and other printed media advertising the co-sponsored activity or event can identify the name and logo of the alcohol or tobacco company sponsoring the event, but they are limited to one-fourth of the visible viewing area. Therefore, three-fourths of the flyer, poster, newspaper ad, banner, etc., must focus on the event or be neutral (blank space).

4.   A moderation message (e. g., "Don't Drink and Drive," "Smoking is Hazardous to Your Health," etc.) must accompany all advertisements that include alcohol or tobacco sponsors.

ACTIVITIES THAT ARE NOT PERMISSIBLE UNDER THIS UPPS:

1.   Student organizations may not sell alcohol- or tobacco-related paraphernalia as a sole fundraising activity on campus.

2.   Beer companies (Miller, Budweiser, Corona, etc.) may not offer beer as a prize or gift to the winners or participants in a co-sponsored activity. For example, kegs of beer may not be given to the winning team in a volleyball tournament.

3.   Drinking contests are not allowed as part of any co-sponsored activity.

4.   The alcohol or tobacco marketing company (Miller, Budweiser, Corona, Marlboro) may not base its financial support on the amount of its product purchased or consumed by individuals or groups prior to or during the co-sponsored activity or event.
