General Ledger codes for purchasing software:

Code 741500 - Rental of Computer Software

This is software that must be renewed in order to continue using it.

Code 726200 - Personal Property - Maintenance and Repair - Computer Software – Expensed

Maintenance (either software or consulting) for perpetual use software; software for which annual payments are NOT required.

Code 738000 - Personal Property - Computer Software – Expensed

This is software that is purchased and does not have to be renewed in order to continue use. It is perpetual use software. Any software purchased "shrink-wrapped”.

Code 738700 - Personal Property - Computer Software – Capitalized

This is software for which the total requires it to be considered a capital purchase.
