Mission Statement Review Questionnaire

Vice Presidents and Deans Response Summary

All responses of vice presidents and deans who responded to the five mission statement review questions are included in the attached tables. In some cases slight wording differences were combined into one category.

Explanation of Tables

Table 1

Question #1 asked what is currently contained in our mission statement that should remain. Question #2 asked respondents to prioritize their list of items that should remain in the mission statement. Table 1 contains all responses to Question #1 and lists the priority level each respondent gave to a particular statement. If no number appears in a particular box, then the respondent did not consider the item at all. More entries under a certain heading (ex. Scholarship, Research, Creativity had 9 entries), indicate that more respondents thought the statement/phrase should remain in the revised mission statement.

Table 2

Question #3 asked respondents to indicate what is not currently contained in the mission statement that should be contained in it. Table 2 includes all responses citing phrases/statements that should be included in the revised mission statement. More entries under a certain heading (ex. Doctoral Intensive) indicate that more respondents thought the new statement/phrase should be added to the revised mission statement.

Table 3

Question #4 asked respondents to indicate what sets SWT apart from other universities. Table 3 includes all responses citing phrases/statements that indicate how we are different from other universities. More entries under a certain heading (ex. Student-focused Environment/ Accessibility) indicate that more respondents thought the statement/phrase illustrated how SWT is “special” and thus should be added to the revised mission statement.
