PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

Developed a 4 hour comprehensive review workshop for special education students. This consists of designing the curriculum and implementing workshops. A study  guide was developed, and review sessions are offered on a regular basis for special education students prior to each ExCET/TExES exam.

Developed and coordinated a post-baccalaureate program for general education teachers, the Learning Disabilities Project for Teachers, who have students with learning disabilities included in their classroom. This consists of recruiting qualified individuals, interviewing students for admission, mentoring and advising students throughout the program; conducting follow-up seminars, one including administrators; and structuring and coordinating quality supervision and mentoring. The program results in special education certification. As of this past summer (2005), eighty-three individuals have participated in this program and all are currently teaching students with learning disabilities in their classrooms. Many of these teachers are from traditionally underrepresented populations and teach in high poverty schools. The program will continue for one more year.
