How many credit hours are included in the program? The program is 63 credit hours including 12 hours for dissertation.

How long should it take to complete the program? If you are attending full time, you could complete the course work in 2 - 2 1/2 years. If you are attending part-time, it should take 3 - 3 1/2 years.

How long do I have to finish the program? The maximum amount of time for the course work is 5 years and the maximum amount of the time for the dissertation is 5 years.

What is the residency requirement? The residency requirement is that you attend classes for three consecutive semesters (Fall, Spring and Summer). This requirement is met for most students in the first year as they take their initial 18 hours with their cohort.

Do you offer any distance, on-line or off-campus courses? The only courses that may be offered off campus at this time are a few of the electives. All core, concentration, research, and dissertation courses are offered on campus.

Can I work and attend classes? All of our courses are offered in the evenings and on weekends for the convenience of working students. Core and concentration courses are typically offered on Monday and Thursday nights from 6:30 - 9:15pm.

Can coursework I took after I completed my Master's degree be transferred in for credit? Only coursework taken at a doctoral level may be transferred in for credit. Any doctoral level coursework would be evaluated by your advisor and the program coordinator prior to the receipt of credit.

How does the cohort concept work? Students from both majors are admitted in the Fall of each year into a cohort. Students take the first 18 hours together - 6 hours in the Fall, 6 in the Spring, and 6 in a 10 week summer session. After that, the students divide into their majors and take all concentration courses with the students from their cohort who have the same major. Electives are not taken as a cohort.

Can I start in the Spring or Summer? No, students are admitted only in the Fall of each year.

If I have the requested GPA and GRE scores, will I automatically be admitted into the program? No, this is a competitive program. A maximum of 25 students are admitted each year, and all criteria, not just the numerical data, are considered when making a decision regarding admission.
