The program is 63 credit hours including 12 hours for dissertation.
If you are attending full time, you could complete the course work in 2 to 2 1/2 years. If you are attending part time, it should take 3 to 3 1/2 years.
The maximum length of time for the course work is five years and the maximum length of the time for the dissertation is five years.
The academic residency requirement is that you attend classes for three consecutive semesters (Fall, Spring and Summer). Most students meet this requirement in the first year as they take their initial 18 hours with their cohort.
The only courses that may be offered off campus at this time are a few of the electives. All core, concentration, research and dissertation courses are offered only on campus.
All of our courses are offered in the evenings and on weekends for the convenience of working students. Core and concentration courses are typically offered on Monday and Thursday nights from 6:30 - 9:15pm.
Only coursework taken at a doctoral level may be transferred in for credit. Any doctoral level coursework would be evaluated by your advisor and the program coordinator prior to the receipt of credit.
Students from both majors are admitted in the fall of each year into a cohort. Students take the first 18 hours together — six hours in the fall, six hours in the Spring, and six in a 10-week summer session. After that, the students divide into their majors and take all concentration courses with the students from their cohort who have the same major. Electives are not taken as a cohort.
No, students are admitted only in the fall of each year.
You must attend during the first semester of the program. All other summer semester attendance is optional.
If a student expects not to be able to enroll for one or more semesters due to a leave of absence, the student should submit a request to the Graduate College. The request must be officially made by the program director. The student should forward a brief rationale for the requirement, the period of leave requested to the program director. If the student is in dissertation stage, then also include the dissertation chair. Granting of leave does not automatically extend students deadlines (for meeting candidacy or graduation).
