Master of Arts in Developmental and Adult Education:

Overview The M.A. in Developmental and Adult Education is a thirty-nine hour program, including thesis, which provides the expertise and experience to develop and lead developmental and adult education programs in a variety of settings such as learning assistance centers, remedial instruction programs, and community-based literacy programs, adult basic education programs, workplace development programs, and lifelong learning programs.
For both the thesis and non-thesis option, required coursework emphasizes, adult learning and development; program administration and leadership, including needs assessment, design, implementation, management, and evaluation; research methodology; teaching adults; and multicultural perspectives in postsecondary and adult education. Additional courses are added to the student’s degree outline in consultation with the program advisor and with consideration of the student’s professional career tracks (e.g. adult literacy/ESL, continuing and community education, or developmental education and learning assistance).
Students in the M.A. program must write and defend a master's thesis on a developmental or adult education topic. Graduate faculty will guide and supervise the thesis project.

Requirements 1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Overview The Minor in Developmental and Adult Education consists of fifteen hours taken in conjunction with an approved Texas State University graduate major. It provides the expertise and experience to teach in a variety of developmental and remedial settings such as junior/community colleges, vocational/technical schools, universities, and private industry.
Required coursework emphasizes developmental and adult education theory and practice; learning theory; special characteristics and needs of underprepared learners; adult learning and development and instructional strategies for reading and writing.
The minor culminates in a supervised internship/teaching practicum (150 clock hours minimum)iin a postsecondary developmental or adult educational setting
